How Do You Take Care of Quartz Kitchen Countertops

Great news, quartz counters are going to be one of the easiest features of your home to clean and maintain. This beautifully engineered stone is a lovely addition to any kitchen and bathroom because of its durability and appearance.

The reason quartz is popular in homes is because: 93% of the final slab of quartz that you see, is made out of ground quartz, with about 7% containing resins, polymers, and colors. This is why there’s such a beautiful variety of quartzcountertops available. This special resin protects the stone, making it non-porous. That means it’s scratch and chip resistant, as well as impervious to stains.

As you can see, it is a great stone to use in your kitchen and bathrooms, but don’t be fooled, there is still some cleaning and maintenance to keep your countertops looking consistently new and beautiful. This guide should help explain Everything You Need to Know About Quartz Countertops.

TIP #1 – NO CHEMICALS
Don’t use abrasive cleaners or bleach. The use of these chemicals eventually wears through its polymer coating, making the counter susceptible to stains and chips.

TIP #2 – WIPE UP A.S.A.P.
These counters are stain-resistant, not stain proof. Spilling something colourful and acidic, such as wine or cola can eventually cause permanent stains. These spills should be cleaned up promptly.

TIP #3 – KEEP WINDEX HANDY
A glass cleaner such as Windex can be used for dried-on, or heavy stains. Be sure to use a soft cloth or non-abrasive sponge.

TIP #4 – TRY A GENTLE SCRAPE
Some of the worst stains you’ll deal with can be easily scraped off with a plastic putty knife or even a razor blade. Grease, gum, even dried paint will pop off pretty easily.

TIP #5 – GREASE AND GOO
Degreasing cleaners work well on quartz countertops, be sure to rinse right away after. Goo Gone can also be used to remove ink or permanent marker.

PREVENTING DAMAGE TO YOUR QUARTZ COUNTERTOP
-The countertops are usually heat resistant up to 400 degrees Farenheit. But quick changes in temperature (known as thermal shock) can still cause damage. Avoid putting hot pots or pans directly on the counter. It may even be wise to use a hot pad for your crockpot or electric skillet too.
– Don’t use knives directly on your countertop. Quartz is very scratch-resistant, but damage can still happen, especially when hit forcefully with sharp objects. Dicing your vegetables without a cutting board would be a bad idea.
– As we mentioned earlier you want to stay away from abrasive cleaners. A good rule of thumb with quartz is to wipe away any chemical that is spilled. Nail polish remover, oven cleaner, turpentine, drain cleaners, and dishwasher rinsing agents can all eventually damage a quartz counter.

– While they are dent resistant, try not to test that too much. Enough pressure or force will cause some damage. Dropping a heavy pot for example may end up chipping or cracking the stone.
